PINK SLIME




Finally, McDonald's has decided to eliminate the use of ammonium hydroxide in its hamburger meat and chicken nuggets. The picture above is what the ammonium hydroxide mixture is, also known as "pink slime." Ammonium hydroxide is an ingredient in fertilizers, household cleaners and explosives! It is sick to think that this used to be in McDonald's meat and chicken. The ammonium hydroxide was used for soaking the scrap meat or "selected lean beef trimmings" and grounding it into a pink meat-like paste. What is really sad is that usually the scrap meat is used as the cheapest form of dog food and we are making it fit for humans to eat it! Why in the world does the government actually consider this safe! This pink slime does not look anything like ground beef, IT'S PINK!
Thanks to Jamie Oliver's campaign, which began in April, he included a segment on what he called "pink slime" on his TV show, Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. This segment really brought awareness to the public about what  can be in your hamburger meat or chicken nuggets. I would take the time to google this video on youtube because it will really make you think twice about all fast food corporations! This "pink slime" mixture is was not only used by McDonald's but it is still being used in the food industry as an anti-microbial agent in meats, breads and cake products! Pink slime needs to be banned from the food industry period! There has got to be a healthier and safer solution then putting chemicals in our food.

Wow this is incredibly sad, how in the world would any company decide that adding a chemical such as this would be "safe" or even ethical, knowing that they sell their product to millions of Americans and many countries around the world. We already know that eating fast food is already unhealthy due to the high calorie content, high fat content and lack of nutrients, last thing we need is them adding harmful chemicals. Thanks for the good information Arlee, I read that article and just watched the video, well of course I had to "Share" it on Facebook... Big props to Jamie Oliver for doing that demonstration. This makes me think that all of our Government agencies are corrupt. What is the point of having government agencies that are suppose to protect us, if they aren't going to do their jobs!?

  2. I read this same article on the web somewhere. It is unbelievable to me that one of the most profit rearing companies in the world has been able to treat the food that we consume with this poison. Certainly the USDA or any other federal meat/food program would have been dragged over hot coals for this discovery. So why is McDonald's any different? Furthermore, why would anyone risk eating this ? Very interesting article.
