Eat Less, Move More & Save MORE MONEY

Gym? Who needs it!

Want to look good for the summer but a personal trainer and gym fees breaking your pocket? Well put your money away, because the reality is you don’t need to spend tons of money on a monthly membership fee. In fact all you need to do is follow this simple rule “eat less, and move more”, and you will be on your way to an in-expensive healthier life in no time. This idea of “eat less, and move more” is simple -no doubt-, but it’s not necessarily easy. However, when is anything with high worth ever easy? It’s like the age old saying goes “if it was easy, than everyone would do it”. However, it’s no more difficult than it is going to a gym. Below are a few ways you can put the two essential components to losing weight in practice.
Ways to help you move more and eat less:
Find a friend who shares the same desire to drop weight. Have this friend be your exercise buddy, this will help with accountability on be physically active and will motivate you to move!
Do activities that are free and enjoyable for you. For example, hiking, walking your dog, running, or dancing with friends requires little, to no money at all to do and they can be things you like doing. I once heard it said that the best exercise is the one you are willing to do.
Constantly be moving your body everywhere you are at. For instance, while you are sitting down at work for your long shift constantly tap your feet on the ground or for every 50 minutes sitting down, walk up and down the stairs for 10 minutes. You’ll be surprised on how all those little movements add up to BIG calories lost.
When it comes to eating, moderation is the key. Don’t hold out on yourself on those oh so delicious treats you enjoy. Simply decrease the intake of them. As long as you have less calories coming in your body and more going out of your body (thorugh the increased movement) you are guaranteed to shed weight. This is not a quick fix! In addition, it would be to your advantage to not only change how much you eat but to also change what you eat
So, enough with wasting your precious hard earned money on things you do not need. Stay motivated, and dedicate time & energy to this & you will see results.

  1. The picture you’ve used reminds me of myself. I try to take the stairs as often as I can. I’ve actually found myself considering buying a two-story house simply because I know that I will get more exercise by being forced to use them every day. Besides the fat loss, extra movement and tips to go walk around every once in a while can help prevent your legs from developing varicose veins or clots. I like your emphasis on trying to do little things, it’s like money; all the little things add up quickly.

  2. People really do overcomplicate losing weight. It is too often that people want this complex plan laid out for them, when in actuality, no one can keep to it. So, by keeping a broad focus, any nutrition and fitness plan can be tailored to the individual by the individual.
Also, one of the big barriers for me and I know others is money so I was immediately hooked to the topic.

I love some of the tips used in this article. The mention of just tapping your feet is great. Too often more sedentary behavior leads to more and more because the body just becomes weaker. This simple idea to prevent the fall deeper into the pit is unbelievably useful AND approachable.

  3. A very motivational article that offered simple and efficient steps to getting into shape. Since I am almost 30, I have noticed I am not that speedy metabolic machine anymore and getting "firmer" is a longer process than it would have been at 22. I agree with Lauren that our culture over-thinks weight loss and resort to extreme and strange quick fixes. I also HATE that we think pain is gain. That's one of the things that kept me from hitting the gym.

Arizona has the best weather in the spring and fall and great locations to exercise for free. May as well take advantage of it ! I always browse through different fitness related articles and this one in particular reaches out to busy, working people who just want a sensible approach and not the gimmicks.

  4. I completely agree with this article. Many people think that they can't lose weight without paying for a membership for a gym or paying money for a personal trainer. This is not true, there are so many ways you can save money and still lose weight while doing it. You provided decent examples in your article, for example using the stairs. There are always elevators to take but the stairs are a simple way to get some extra activity into your day. I also like how you give advice on smaller portions will help with weight loss as well. Many people have a hard time doing this, so providing your link "what you eat" is very helpful to people who don't understand portion control.

  5. I like that you said the best exercise is the one that you're willing to do, which is so true! I really agree with everything you said above, as well. I work full time in an office, so I definitely understand the importance of just getting up and moving. It sounds crazy, but so many people sit for hours and hours without getting up. I also take the stairs every day, which is a very hard work out, and I would consider myself in shape! It is also free, which is great for me. I'm actually going to take your advice and start wiggling in my chair! Also because sometimes I get irritated when I sit in my chair for so long. The whole eating less is tough too, but life is all about moderation!

  6. I really liked your post the first thing that grabbed my attention was your title and how the word “more money were all capitals. I think your post was great because it really made me realize that its true that you don’t need to spend money to be active. I always would say that I couldn’t do exercise because I didn’t have a gym membership but I think that was just an excuse not to be active. But reading your blog now I know that by doing some simple and fun thing I can still be active without having to pay for a gym membership.
